Review:The Mystery Writers of America Cookbook

Hello!

I received a copy of The Mystery Writers of America Cookbook from Quirk, and it is wickedly good!  This book comes out March 24, 2015, so get your pre-orders ready!

"Hard-boiled breakfasts, thrilling entrees, cozy desserts, and more--this illustrated cookbook features more than 100 recipes from legendary mystery authors. Whether you're planning a sinister dinner party or whipping up some comfort food perfect for a day of writing, you'll find plenty to savor in this cunning collection. Full-color photography is featured throughout, along with mischievous sidebars revealing the links between food and foul play. Contributors include Lee Child, Mary Higgins Clark, Harlan Coben, Nelson DeMille, Gillian Flynn, Sue Grafton, Charlaine Harris, James Patterson, Louise Penny, Scott Turow, and many more."

First, the book is gorgeous.  The cover and boards are black with gold accents, and it looks so elegant.

As for the recipes, I have to admit that I have not tried many of them, but they would cater to many people's taste.  Being a vegan, there aren't too many options for me.  But, I am very excited to try Thomas H. Cook's Past as Prologue (Vegetarian) Chili.

One thing I really like about this cookbook is that the mystery theme is very present and consistent throughout.  When there is a recipe pictured, the picture will include the food as well as bullet shells on the table.

Also, there are little blurbs before each section that show the connection between food and mischievous acts.

We all need this!

Overall, I think the idea between this is great!  Who would have thought of creating a cookbook that intertwines mystery and contributions from our favorite mystery writers?  The recipes look wonderful, and I will be trying some more out in the future for my family and friends, and you should too!  Not only a fun, but a delicious read.
