If you've read my last post, you'd know that I am making a conscious effort to stop shopping at Barnes and Noble.
So, yesterday, I went to my local bookstore and made a few purchases.
1. The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness
All Souls Trilogy #3!!! I am currently reading A Discovery of Witches, but I'm only a few chapters into the massive book. I don't think I'll be finishing it before I meet Deborah on Tuesday. Well, I tried, and I like it so far.
2. The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
The epic conclusion!!! I can't wait for this book to come out. Normally, I don't like to preorder books unless the author's tour schedule has been released. That way, I can preorder the book to get signed if the author visits nearby, or I can wait and call one of the bookstores that the author will be visiting and request a signed copy to be shipped to me. I got it all down to a science.
In this case, I preordered The Retribution because Michelle is signing the entire first printing!!! She allots 5 hours a day for signing! 5 hours!!!!!!!
From a collector point of view (like you care), this would be bad news. A signed copy wouldn't be rare. But, I don't care. I need my collection to be complete, and this is one of my favorite series of all time.
Michelle Hodkin is the woman!
Unfortunately, when the book comes out, I'll be away at college. I'm having the book shipped to me, but to my home address, not my college mailbox. I'm actually not bringing any of my books to college. I don't want them to get damaged in transit!

Oh, You've Done It Barnes and Noble...and NOT in the Good Way
I hope to never buy from Barnes and Noble again. They messed up my order, and their customer service was useless. Now, I will be making a conscious effort to buy books from indie bookstores. I haven't always bought from them because of the smaller selection, but indie booksellers seem to actually care and are passionate about books.
So let me tell you how Barnes and Noble gave me the poop end of the stick...
Rainbow Rowell sent out this tweet, so I called one of he Omaha stores and asked for a signed copy to be shipped to me. Of course, after being excited to open up my package, I found a naked title page! It was not signed (insert angry emoji).
The mistake wouldn't have bothered me as much if I didn't have to pay for it. Maybe the bookseller was in the middle of something and didn't hear me or was having a bad day. I don't know what caused her to make the error, but I ended up having spend 10 minutes to reorder a signed copy, pay for shipping twice, and have to go to a store to return the first book.
The first time I ordered the book, I paid the online price, about $10 less. The second time, I paid the in-store price since that specific store in Omaha was selling me the book. That's understandable, but it really stunk.
I may have sent an angry tweet to Barnes and Noble customer service. I deleted it, but they still saw it. They told me to DM them the details, so I did--140 characters at a time. What a pain. As expected, which was why I deleted the tweet, they did absolutely nothing for me.
So, after returning the first book, I'm out $10. This isn't a huge amount of money, I know. But it is the lack of customer service that makes me furious.
I got the signed book today, so I'm done with that abominable company.
The funny part of this whole story is that the second book was addressed to my brother, Cory. I guess people from Omaha can't understand my thick accent. (Haha, in reality I have a Midwestern accent, which is considered the purest American accent.)
He often sends his mail to my house, but I looked at the return address and was like "Omaha? I'm getting something from there too! Wait...Barnes and Noble?!?," and I ripped that baby up. I can't imagine my brother opening up Landline. Hahahahahha

FYI, both Omaha Barnes & Nobles have signed copies of all my books, INCLUDING LANDLINE, right now. And they'll ship! pic.twitter.com/kp7bKnDfOt

The worker literally did an online order for me. I could do that by myself and save a lot of time! Also, why would I call from across the country just for that? Ugh, the incompetence!!The mistake wouldn't have bothered me as much if I didn't have to pay for it. Maybe the bookseller was in the middle of something and didn't hear me or was having a bad day. Book Buying Time- Signed Copy of Four: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth
I've been absent for the past few days because I got oral surgery. Not wisdom teeth removal, but I have felt like Isla minus finding a charming fellow named Josh. I have been suffering, not from physical pain but from having to eat oatmeal and soup more than once a day. So, as a treat, I've bought myself a signed copy of Four: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth. And how do you benefit? Well, I'll tell you all the details so that you can get your copy too.
A little while ago, you could preorder a signed copy from Barnes and Noble. Don't even bother anymore, trust me. She already signed the 6,000 copies, and they were all ordered.
However, you can get a signed copy if you come out to the Four Tour! But, the Four Tour only consists of four stops. Surprise, surprise.

If you do plan on coming to one of these events, you should know that there will be no signing lines. All of the Four books will be presigned, and it will only be a talk with Veronica.
What to do if you don't live near any of these cities?!?
Honestly, this is the best situation because you can still get your book without having to travel.
HOW?
Well, I've done the research for you, and Schuler Books offers signed copies of Four for $17.99 and shipping is $1. You can be a total recluse! Truly, though, this is the best option because should you attend the event in Lansing, you may be standing if you were not one of the first 100 to buy a ticket. And, you wouldn't have the option of just getting Four. You'd get a copy of Starglass by Phoebe North too.
You're welcome in advance for all of this insight. Hahaha, but I really hope that this was helpful.
Leave me a comment and tell me which Divergent book was your favorite.

Are You Divergent?
Taking a break from writing my essay, I took a quiz to find out which faction I would belong to. I think we are all a little of each, so I wasn't surprised that I turned out to be divergent. Are you? Take the quiz here. And will you be seeing Divergent on premiere night?
I'm going to a special Divergent movie release event at the Neshaminy Mall Barnes & Noble. There will be martial arts instructors for Dauntless training, games and prizes. And a completely different author, who is not Veronica Roth but Maria Snyder, author of Inside Out will be signing at the same time. Yeah, I wonder how awkward this will be too.

Author Event: Storycrush Tour (Lauren Oliver, Courtney C. Stevens,Melissa Kantor, Robyn Schneider, Katie Cotugno)
This past Monday, I saw five wonderful YA romance authors at Barnes and Noble! Who?
No longer a front-runner for Homecoming King, Ezra finds himself at the table of misfits, where he encounters new girl Cassidy Thorpe. Cassidy is unlike anyone Ezra’s ever met, achingly effortless, fiercely intelligent, and determined to bring Ezra along on her endless adventures.
But as Ezra dives into his new studies, new friendships, and new love, he learns that some people, like books, are easy to misread. And now he must consider: if one’s singular tragedy has already hit and everything after it has mattered quite a bit, what happens when more misfortune strikes?
Robyn Schneider’s The Beginning of Everything is a lyrical, witty, and heart-wrenching novel about how difficult it is to play the part that people expect, and how new beginnings can stem from abrupt and tragic endings.
Zoe and her best friend, Olivia, have always had big plans for the future, none of which included Olivia getting sick. Still, Zoe is determined to put on a brave face and be positive for her friend.
Even when she isn't sure what to say.
Even when Olivia misses months of school.
Even when Zoe starts falling for Calvin, Olivia's crush.
The one thing that keeps Zoe moving forward is knowing that Olivia will beat this, and everything will go back to the way it was before. It has to. Because the alternative is too terrifying for her to even imagine.
In this incandescent page-turner, which follows in the tradition of The Fault in Our Stars, Melissa Kantor artfully explores the idea that the worst thing to happen to you might not be something that is actually happening to you. Raw, irreverent, and honest, Zoe's unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.
Lauren Oliver, Courtney C. Stevens, Melissa Kantor, Robyn Schneider, Katie Cotugno of course!
The weather forecasters were calling for another brutal storm, but they were so wrong. Yet, the day was still great because I got to go to school late and still make my book signing.
I arrived pretty close to the start time, thinking that it wouldn't be bad to get a seat. Boy, I underestimated the crowd!
Alas, I found a seat, and who do I see walking in but two bloggers (Jamie @brokeandbookish and Betty @bookrockbetty) I follow onTwitter. I realized that I've been to a lot of signings they were at, and I've gotten in touch with them. After every signing it seems like we say," You were there too? Did you see me?" Our planning is terrible.
Jamie sat down next to me. I knew it was her, but I always feel awkward meeting people from a Twitter in real life. I think,"What if they don't recognize me?" So instead, I sent Jamie a tweet because she was busy blogging live. It was like,"oh, hey! Sititing next to you!!" Talk about embarrassing.
And I didn't say anything throughout the event.
Taking a break from my awkwardness, the event was great!
The two authors that seemed the most interesting were Courtney and Lauren. Courtney is from the South and has a sweet accent. Robyn and Katie are also debut authors, but Courtney seemed like she was the most appreciative of the book and the tour. Her excitement and passion for writing exuded!
You know that question that somebody asks at every book signing?
"What advice would you give to an aspiring author?"
Courtney gave the most interesting response, but a great one nonetheless that I've ever heard: you have to wear the cone of shame that animals get at the vet so that you can't see what everyone else to your sides are doing. Everybody's road to publication is different, and you just have to be you and look forward.
After this event, Lauren became my #wcw. Still waiting on a response from her after I sent that tweet. Danielle, my friend who programmed my keyboard to correct her name to My Nemesis, may have steered me wrong in encouraging me to send that tweet. Guess the autocorrect is true.
Lauren has dry, witty humor. In the very beginning, someone coughed, and Lauren made a snarky remark about her presence causing someone to choke.
The thing I appreciated most about Lauren was her honesty. Someone asked if her high school self would play Panic, to which she replied that she would because she was a reckless teen that didn't like herself very much, but now she is more careful because she's proud of what she's done. I thought that was admirable and brave to admit.
How cool is it that I got a copy of the finished Panic one day it came out?! I could lie and say that I stayed up and read it all to be among the first, but I still haven't cracked the spine. I know, I'm a disgrace to the bookish community.
I know you are curious about how my encounter with Jamie and Betty went! So after I was done with the signing, I said hi to them. They were really nice! I'm going to be them in the next few years, I'm afraid. Not that reading YA books is a bad thing, but I want to develop my book tastes as I get older.

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.
Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.
For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.
Alexi Littrell hasn't told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.
When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in "the Kool-Aid Kid," who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.
A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author-Courtney C. Stevens.

Golden boy Ezra Faulkner believes everyone has a tragedy waiting for them—a single encounter after which everything that really matters will happen. Jennifer Armentrout Book Signing Part 2
See Part 1
Time for more pictures!!! I didn't realize this was the launch event of Sentinel! I suppose that's why there were so many giveaways and such.
This event was super fun!I'm glad I decided to take a drive and go. Jennifer talked for an hour, then signed for two. There were a lot of people there, but she took the time to talk with everybody and sign each and every book. My goodness, she is dedicated!!!!!! And she still had a dinner with 5 winners after the signing ending! I can't believe Jennifer is that kind or that her publisher would give away so much.

Jennifer Armentrout Book Signing
I had nothing to do today, so here I am at a Jennifer Armentrout/J. Lynn signing. I've read two of her new adults, and I'm not a huge fan of her's but I came here for the entertainment.
There are no seats, and I am probably the youngest one here. Seriously, all mamas are here.
Jennifer is really cute! She's funny, but she seems a bit ditzy.
I had picked up some books for her to sign, but I hate paperbacks, so I put them back. I felt really bad about this, but guess what happened?
Everybody received raffle tickets. Jennifer gave away swag packs, and I actually one one. How funny, considering I got a ticket late and wasn't dying to win. Also, she gave away a few invitations to join her for dinner. How sweet of her publisher Spencer Hill!!! I've never seen that happen before! And she gave away books for each person that answered a question. Over an hour later, they're still asking!!! My feet hurt from standing:(

I HAVE A FAN!: Lauren Kate Book Signing
Yesterday, Lauren Kate, author of the Fallen series and now Teardrop, came to my local Barnes and Noble. The last time I picked up Fallen was when it came out. I never continued with the series until last month in anticipation of going to the signing with my friend, Danielle, a major fan of Fallen. I'm barely into Passion, and the ending of the series has been spoiled.
Before I went, I watched an interview of Lauren talking about her inspiration. So, she was crying one day, really frustrated while writing Torment. Her husband couldn't understand her, and she couldn't understand him, like the tears were a physical barrier separating the two of them. Her husband reached out and took one of her tears and placed near his eye, and then they just connected. I thought this was the most bizarre thing Id ever heard, and I am ad that when she told this story at the signing that she admitted it was the "weirdest, sexiest thing that's ever happened to [her]." I am reassured that she is sane for admitting it was weird:)
Lauren Kate was super sweet and funny. She was talking about her research for Teardrop, reading all kinds of books about Atlantis. When she said that she even read the cultish ones and that she didn't discriminate, I cracked up! She was just so cute! It must be a rule that you must be funny and nice to be an author. There have only been a few to have broken my hypothesis (Ahem Stephenie Meyer, Nicolas Sparks, and Cassandra Clare).
I bet you are intrigued by my heading. This was definitely the coolest thing that has happened to me as a Twitter user/ blogger so far. Someone recognized me from my Twitter picture and was already following! Woah!!! She was pretty sweet too. Go follow her on Twitter @fallen_mgrl ! I can't stress it enough: Reading brings people together! I guess I reluctantly should add that so does social media:( I've found people's pictures on Twitter of them at book signings and then realized that I was there too, but I have never had this happen. I feel kinda famous even though this girl follows anyone that's ever had one good tweet. Hahahahaha
Please excuse my emo hair. I'm in need of a haircut(hairstyle recommendations welcome) and it was an all around bad hair day.

Review: Wild Cards by Simone Elkeles
Wild Cards by Simone ElkelesMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama.
Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain--people you care about leave without a backward glance. A football scholarship would finally give her the chance to leave. So she pours everything into winning a state championship, until her boyfriend and star quarterback betrays them all by joining their rival team. Ashtyn needs a new game plan, but it requires trusting Derek—someone she barely knows, someone born to break the rules. Is she willing to put her heart on the line to try and win it all?
Characters:
Hello Derek, my new book boyfriend! He may already be taken by Ashtyn (oops spoiler, but you should know that Simone Elkeles always tries to write happy endings), but he'll charm you too. Derek is kind, despite what Ashtyn initially believes, and very witty! I love everything about him except for one particular fashion choice!!!!! I don't understand it! Derek found the perfect girl, Ashtyn. That she plays football well and can handle the guys is really empowering. I appreciate the presence of a strong heroine after reading another romance with an overprotective, authoritative male who suppresses the pathetic female lead. I suppose I'm a feminist. Regardless, Ashtyn still has insecurities and troubled feelings, showing her vulnerable side that people can relate to. The rest of the Rebels squad seemed nice. I only hated the haughty and selfish Landon McKnight! What a loser.
Plot:
If you like the Perfect Chemistry series, you will enjoy this. It is most similar to Rules of Attraction in that the hero and heroine live under the same room, and the girl is athletic and clever. The ending seemed a little rushed, but reflecting, it had to be that way in order to be realistic and work with the rest of the plot.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, I bought this book for a friend's birthday in fact! I love anything by Simone Elkeles. It's not as good as Perfect Chemistry, but you'll be laughing and saying awww throughout!!!!

Ally Carter Signing
My friend Rachel actually introduce me to te Gallagher Girls last spring when Alky Carter came to my local Barnes and Noble for Out of Sight, Out of Time's release. I just finished Only the Good Soy Young, and I'm not a crazy fan of the books since I started them when I was a bit older. However, I feel the need to finish the series now that I've gotten this far, and Ally Carter is so nice so I want to read all of her stuff.
I didn't pay too much attention to the question and answer because I'm not up to date on the books, and it was a little difficult to hear. But, I noticed how enthusiastic Ally was with her fans. She gets the same questions over and over, has been on tour for awhile, probably isn't getting the best sleep, but still really appreciates everyone coming out.
Last time I saw Ally, she toured with Rachel Hawkins, author of Hex Hall. No wristbands were needed, and the crowd wasn't bad. So, I got to the store 45 minutes early to do some homework and I was in the group that got stuff signed third!! My goodness, when did people start arriving? I noted that there were already no seats. Ugh, what really annoys me is that there were parents taking up spots! Be aware and courteous and let other little girls have the spot!!! I spent the remainder of the time off in another area of the store doing homework.
Then, once the signing commenced there was absolutely no where to even stand, so I was forced to be a creep and sit across the way.

After waiting like 20 minutes, it was my tun to meet Ally. She asked everyone what grade they were in, and when she asked me she asked if I was still in school . God, I feel so old, especially coming to some book signings. I'm a senior in high school for the record. Also, she saw my tweet about being a creeper across the way. That was pretty cool since sometimes it feels like people are so busy and get so many tweets that your's gets lost in the mix. "Posed" pictures weren't allowed, but here's the picture I got with her.

Fallen by Lauren Kate Movie Cast
It's been super long that we have been waiting to hear who got cast in Lauren Kate's Fallen. Remember when Lucy Hale was supposed to play Luce? I thought the movie got dropped, but it's in full swing with casting for Luce and Daniel just announced. So here we go...
ADDISON TIMLIN is LUCE
JEREMY IRVINE is DANIEL
MY THOUGHTS: Oh my goodness, these people are perfect in terms of physical looks!!!!!!!! I've never heard of Addison Timlin, and I only know that Jeremy Irvine was in War Horse, so I hope their acting is good. This news has gotten me very excited for the movie. Now, I've only read Fallen when it first came out, so I'm extremely fuzzy on the plot. I can remember that there is an epic love triangle and Luce's school is full of angels, and that's about it. What else do I need to know, right? Haha, I am going to continue on with the series because Lauren Kate will be visiting my local Barnes and Noble for the release of Teardrop, her new series. My friend Dani and I are probably going to dress up with wings because we are nerdy like that and because it will be the Sunday before Halloween. If you come to the signing, you will know who I am:) I let you know when Cam is cast. I can't wait to see who gets chosen!!
